For the last four years (before, during, and after COVID), I taught one of the largest classes at MIT, Microeconomics. Pivoting online with a couple of weeks' notice and 250 students who were scattering around the globe was challenging, to say the least. I sent a hand-printed t-shirt to any student who requested one that semester (and over a hundred students did!).
Teaching the best students in the world is a rare privilege and, honestly, the best part of my job. I am particularly proud of my upper-level undergraduate course 14.27, Economics and Ecommerce, and 14.33, Economics Research and Communication, which I developed about 20 years ago and have taught many times over the years.
Esther Duflo and I designed and cotaught an award-winner online course, 14.310x, Data Analysis for Social Scientists, that has been accessed by well over 100,000 learners to date. In doing so, we have made MIT-level content and rigor available to thousands of people around the globe who would never had had access to it otherwise. And I wrote a companion textbook!
